If Lucasfilm really is deciding to slowly pivot to incorporating AI into their media, I do think that may be the final nail in the coffin for them. Fans have already spoken very clearly about being unhappy with the past usages of deepfakes. Fans already said they didn’t want them to use AI for Vader’s voice and instead hire a VA. ILM paved the way with digital tech in film, but there’s no reason they should be using AI. George relied on practical and digital effects and those digital effects were created using computers and hiring very talented people to produce the imagery. The CGI didn’t feel soulless because it was created by human artists and technicians. If the company is going to ignore that and instead make it a priority to start utilizing AI I truly think they might be lost. I hope they change their minds because this is insanely disappointing and quite frankly, a disrespect to all artists who have worked on Star Wars.
