After Hitler's rise to power in 1933, Bernhard Weiss was dismissed from his position and formally stripped of his German citizenship. His name appeared on the Nazi regime’s first denaturalization list, issued on August 25, 1933, which revoked the citizenship of 33 individuals.

Hermann Göring issued a warrant for Bernhard Weiss's arrest and even offered a reward for his capture. When the police raided his home, his family hid him beneath a pile of coal in the basement. He escaped to Czechoslovakia and later moved to England, where he died in 1951.
