This is my take at a model of a space telescope idea. I am not the best at making models but I would love to make it better! Project "Zodiac Zero" Prototype 0.1 The idea for Project Zodiac Zero is to be used as a Deep Space Telescope placed in an orbit 2.3 AU away from our sun, near / inside the Asteroid Belt. The reason why I gave the idea the name "Zodiac Zero" is due to the light near the Asteroid Belt is 20x fainter than Earth, which could possibly help achieve a near-zero background interference from scattered sunlight. The current features I thought of (For the Main components) is > A 12 - 15m circular primary mirror composed of 25 inner Hex segments, plus 5 outer curved petals on all 4 sides, which could deliver ~ 176m^2 of Collecting Area (7 times the Webb Telescope) and ~ 140 times the far-IR sensitivity of the Webb Telescope. > An 18 - 20m double-sided halo solar ring that could provide constant power to the telescope. > 4 or 5 Layer sunshield that would keep the optics below ~ 72K passively. ---- Light Grasp ---- > JWST : 25m^2 > Zodiac Zero : 176m^2 - 176 / 25 = ~ 7x more Photons ---- Background Noise (Zodiacal Light) ---- > JWST : @ ~ 1 AU (the baseline) > Zodiac Zero : @ ~ 2 - 2.3 AU = ~ 1/20 Noise Ratio = Square root of 1/20 = ~ 0.224x Noise ---- Thermal Background ---- > JWST : ~ 7 kelvin (With active cooling) > Zodiac Zero : ~ <72 Kelvin (Passive) -> 8 times less thermal photons -> Noise Ratio = ~ 0.35 ---- Total Sensitivity Gain ---- > Signal ↑ 7.0 times > Noise ↓ 0.224 x 0.35 ≈ 0.078 Times > Sensitivity = Signal / Noise - 7.0 / 0.078 = ~ 90x better S/N All of the math that I have done for this project is all approximate, and with information that I searched for.
