Interesting choice of words. MPs are telling me that in the event of a longer leadership contest some of the leading candidates are considering making an early statement that Rachel Reeves would actually be retained as Chancellor, to secure market stability.
BREAKING. Chancellor @RachelReevesMP responds to GDP figures - Q1 2026 - and signals she's against a coup against Starmer today
“Today’s figures show the Government has the right economic plan. The choices I have made as Chancellor mean our economy is in a stronger position as we deal with the costs of the war in Iran.
“Now is not the time to put our economic stability at risk. To do so would leave families and business worse off. Instead, this Government is getting on with the job of building an economy that is stronger, more resilient, and prepared for the future.”
You can’t threaten a man with the sack and then complain when he leaves for a better offer.
Very sad to see @admuz leave, but only the utmost respect for what he achieved.
Good luck for the future Adam - and thank you for the fantastic memories 👏🏻

Jessica Rose Phillips hits the nail on the head here.
I think Keir is a good man.
But if we want a Labour government to achieve the change the country craves, that is no longer enough. 🌹🌹🌹
Massive congratulations and a huge thank you to @admuz 👏🏻🎉
A man who clearly rises to a challenge.
So… I’ve just watched @BOREHAM_WOODFC be a minute from a second successive promotion.
Enjoy your summer and come back refreshed Adam, but fancy going one better?

Birmingham by far and away the most interesting city in Britain - the real capital, not London. Its relative decline a much better mirror to the rest of the country than Manchester or Bristol or Edinburgh. The actually existing UK, good and bad and the rest on display almost everywhere you go. Richest place to report on and to have conversations with people. Also has the best botanical gardens (maybe not relevant to the point I’m trying to make). The fact that no one has written a gigantic teeming Tom Wolfe / Dickens style brick called Second City shames British writers, journalists, novelists, publishers.
"Every great man has been to prison - Nelson Mandela went to prison."
"You'd compare yourself to Nelson Mandela?"
@lewis_goodall clashes with Independent campaigner Akhmed Yakoob, accused of money laundering, after Yakoob says he has 'puppet masters in the Zionist regime'.
I’ve never been so shocked and disgusted by a Labour Party election broadcast.
No wonder it has been censored.
It’s because we didn’t use our own words - just those of Reform UK politicians.
It needs to be watched and shared so that people know who and what they’re voting for.
Best £1 I have spent in a very long time! Discovered in the second hand books at @WensleydaleRail, a trip
down memory lane for this @WorcsCCC supporter! Thanks for chronicling @patmurphybbc - happy days! 🍐🍐🍐🏏
BREAKING: “It is increasingly clear that as the world continues down this volatile path our long term national interest requires closer partnership with our allies in Europe and with the European Union.. Brexit did deep damage to our economy”
Prime minister Keir Starmer 👏
Has an arsenal season ticket , takes his son to the football , goes to the pub without PR , plays 5 a side , worked his entire life
More in common with the working man than the grifters @reformparty_uk
Well, with country in a state of high anxiety over the war in Iran, Badenoch chooses to go on the attack. She piles into Starmer asking why UK is not carrying out defensive bond raids on Iran, pivots to defence spending and calls him 'pathetic and weak'.
Starmer is absolutely excoriating in return as he takes the high ground: "I spent the week protecting British lives and our national interests. Moments like this define a leader of the opposition. They can either step up, act in the national interest and show that they're fit to be Prime Minister, or they can expose their utter irrelevance. She has chosen the second."
We are not the Britain of the Brexit years anymore.
We must look outwards, and work with our European neighbours to keep our country safe.
There is no British security without Europe, and no European security without Britain.
ALT Prime Minister Keir Starmer sits next to the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
📈
The one chart that explains a lot about the UK…
From Econ growth, to doom mongery, to pessimism among older people, to high savings rates, and in turn raises interesting questions about Govt strategy, the influence of social media etc
Consumer confidence, by age/ GFK NOP
Blimey. Did I really just hear Keir Starmer say this
“They had more positions in 14 years than the Kama Sutra. No wonder they are knackered and they left the country screwed”
#PMQs
Received the worst inheritance of any PM since Attlee, but making significant progress against an unprecedentedly hostile right wing media. Change *is* happening.
In 2026, the choices we’ve made will mean more people will begin to feel positive change.
The promise of renewal will become a reality, and Britain will turn the corner.
From my family to yours: Happy New Year.
