Pollinators matter for human health🐝 Our new @Nature paper traces links from wild pollinators>crops>nutrient intake & income in rural Nepal—showing how pollinator declines threaten health & livelihoods, but also how farmers can help manage these risks. doi.org/10.1038/s41586-026-1…

Flies are enormously important as decomposers & recyclers, and are vital for food chains: numerous birds, bats & fish depend on them. Another role is becoming increasingly recognised: their contribution to myiophily, that is, pollination by flies. Blog @ scottishpollinators.wordpres…

Gardens reduce hunger gaps for farmland pollinators! 🏡🐝 In early spring & late summer rural gardens produce 50-95% of farmland nectar, throwing pollinators a crucial lifeline. More in our @royalsociety paper with @nicktew95 and Jane Memmott: doi.org/10.1098/rspb.2024.15… and in🧵👇

7. We show that >90% of farmland in GB is within 1km of a garden, and therefore accessible to mobile pollinators like bumblebees. So positive actions by gardeners can have far-reaching benefits. For the 27 million gardeners in the UK - you can all make a big difference!

8. Flowers that produce loads of nectar & pollen in the early spring and late summer are likely to have the greatest benefit for farmland pollinators. For planting ideas, see these great lists from @DaveGoulson: sussex.ac.uk/lifesci/goulson… and the RHS: rhs.org.uk/science/research/…

Nanoplastics uptake to organisms isn't only about exposure concentrations, but also variable biological traits should be considered. Check out more in our recently published manuscript: link.springer.com/article/10…
