“People have this perception that introducing children to drinking is a good way of teaching them safer drinking. This is untrue. The earlier a child drinks, the more likely they are to develop problems with alcohol in later life.” - Dr Katherine Severi

I'm looking forward to seeing and speaking to as many people as possible at these two events. Let's make the voice of lived experience and recovery is heard loud and clear.

I'm on leave at the moment, but I'm so incredibly proud of my colleagues who made this work happen - esp Carlyn @AnnieKSmith1 - and to @Tom_SRC and all the fantastic people on this programme. I was recently asked what gives me hope in our work on human rights and it's THIS ⏬️

Essential reading for all those trying to make sense of the impact of #MUPsaveslives on inequalities and the misleading GMB claim that raising the price to 65ppu is disproportionate👇
MUP increases the price of the cheapest alcohol, which isn't bought significantly by moderate drinkers on low incomes.
"As such, it effectively targets exactly the drinkers you want to target, without ‘penalising’ moderate drinkers on lower incomes."

A cracking couple of days working with staff and volunteers @AlcDrugsAction and @AiR_Aberdeen to go through Medication Recovery and Me facilitator training on Monday and Rights in Recovery on Tuesday. What an amazing bunch! Excited to see the impact and to continue to support.
"Recovery is not a passive state – it is about human transformation and growth that will often involve overcoming not only physical and psychological withdrawals and cravings but also negative social attitudes, stigma and discrimination."

In Scotland, the GMB union have been vocal in calling for the proposed increase in the MUP threshold from 50p to 65p to be scrapped, on the basis that this is a 30% rise, while wages and disposable incomes have risen by barely 1% since 2018.
But wait...
