Standing ovation for ‘Wicker’ world premiere at #Sundance. Olivia Colman visibly moved. A funny, moving fairy tale about a village outcast who asks a basket maker to create a husband for her — Alexander Skarsgard. His doting, caring sensibility drives the patriarchal town nuts.

WICKER is my first big standout of #Sundance2026! Hilariously absurd yet also heartfelt and humane. Olivia Colman gives one of her most subtle performances here, while Alexander Skarsgård is charming as hell. The make-up work is also top-notch. Such a delight!

WICKER is a quirky, romantic crowd-pleaser that explores envy, true devotion, and the limits of social convention with eccentric humor and genuine heart from the filmmaking duo of Eleanor Wilson and Alex Huston Fischer. Olivia Colman once again proves, whether in comedy, drama, or something beautifully in between, that she remains one of the finest working actors today, while Alexander Skarsgård delivers a warm, quietly enigmatic, and transformative performance (so incredibly well-crafted by the makeup and costumes departments) that’s impossible not to fall for. Smart, sincere, and deeply charming, it’s a strange but charming story about looking beyond differences and breaking the mold to discover what true love really is.
