AI is moving fast. Policy needs to catch up—without overreaching.   At @WeAreILO, we’ve spent the last 2 years working shoulder-to-shoulder with systems leading #AI integration. Here's what we’ve learned: ✅ Local leaders need room to lead ✅ Data privacy can’t wait ✅ We need real research, not hype   As I told the @edworkforcecmte, the federal role in #AI and #K12 should focus on data privacy and cybersecurity.  These are roles that state and local governments lack the necessary expertise and bandwidth to perform alone and offer a focused policy lane for federal legislators.    Proud to share these priorities with Congress. Let’s get this right.

đŸŽ„ “The federal role should be focused—and strategic.” At last week’s congressional hearing on AI, our Dr. @JuliaRafalBaer  laid out 3 urgent policy recommendations from our years of work at the forefront of #AI in education.

High-stakes decisions. Strategic leadership. Real impact.   Great leadership means making tough calls with conviction—even in uncertainty. That’s exactly what @AnnieDuke helped break down for the @WomenLeadingEd network tonight.   Too many women leaders aren’t negotiating—and when they do, gender still plays a role in the outcome. This conversation was about changing that.   #WomenLeadingEd is bringing world-class experts and game-changing strategies to the women leading America’s schools. These are the conversations that elevate leadership, drive results, and create real change.   Proud to be part of this work. Want in? womenleadinged.org/contact

The best leaders don’t just talk about change—they’ve lived it. The women of @WomenLeadingEd have led classrooms, run schools, and shaped communities—all while balancing the demands of leadership and life. These aren’t just numbers—they tell the story of a network of women who know exactly what it takes to lead in education and beyond. They’ve been in the trenches, they’ve made the tough calls, and now, they’re driving the future of leadership. I’m incredibly proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with this powerful, change-making network of driven, capable #WomenLeadingEd. Our work continues, and our impact is only growing. With every leader we support, every major win we notch, and every bold step forward, we’re shaping the future of education.
Our 2025 WLE Insight Survey highlights exactly who makes up this powerful network: 📍 90% started as classroom teachers 📍 67% were school principals 📍 79% are parents or guardians 📍 54% are under 50 📍 74% are balancing leadership with family life

As part of #WomensHistoryMonth, it’s important to recognize that we don’t always learn from the lessons history gives us to do better. Ella Flagg Young became the first female superintendent of a major school district in 1909, but it would take another 64 years before the first Black woman held that position. In 1973, Barbara Sizemore was named Superintendent of @DCPublicSchools, becoming the first Black woman to lead a major school system. Dr. Sizemore was a staunch advocate for academic achievement for the students in Washington, DC. She was charged with leading DC Schools at a time when the District was still partially under congressional control.  And she did not back down when it came to her beliefs and the needs of DC students. However, her commitment was not always met with support from her superiors and colleagues.  During her tenure she was labeled as difficult and stubborn– words still used to describe too many #WomenLeadingEd when we refuse to accept the status quo. By implementing strategies aimed at supporting and empowering women like those found in the #WomenLeadingEd Playbook, we can work towards a future where more women have the opportunity to earn and thrive in leadership positions. static1.squarespace.com/stat
