𝐃𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐮 𝐓𝐮𝐥𝐮, #Ethiopian, was the 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐧 𝐎𝐥𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐜 𝐠𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐚𝐥? In 1992, Derartu won the Gold medal at the 10,000 metres race at the Barcelona Olympics and later at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
Derartu has won several other titles and accolades over the years.
She’s currently the President of Ethiopian Athletic Federation.
