Well just finished my first play through of Prey (2006), and i have to say i enjoyed every moment of it! And I had the pleasure of experiencing it on period hardware, on a CRT and with EAX surround sound! 🥳 Trippy as hell though with all the portals and changing gravity! 😵‍💫😄

Why yes, I think I will shit on pointless remakes.🤔

Got a little something in the mail today. A sealed copy of Prey (2006)!😍

Finally implemented High Scores in my SHMUP... only took me 4 years to get around to it. 🤔 My recent work on a software engineering project course has given me greater familiarity and confidence with JSON serialization and deserialization, so bye bye PlayerPrefs solutions!!! 👋

Unpopular Opinion: PC hardware manufacturers should fully suppor their hardware, for as long as it's technically feasible. E.g. Nvidia should continue to support Pascal and Maxwell GPU's because they still fully support the basic DirectX 12, and can still run modern DX12 titles.

This has simply got to be the easiest CPU upgrade I've performed, in my entire life!!! No messing with heatsinks, thermal paste or temperamental retention systems. Just yank the old CPU and insert the new one, like RAM? Why did we ever stop with this?(Rhetorical question) 🤔

Retro computing is a dangerous hobby. Once you get bit there's no stopping!!! Picked up a delivery of assorted Slot 1 CPU's today. Two Intel Pentium II's, a Celeron and a Pentium III(Katmai) 500 MHz. 🥳

Kind of wild that i used to run speakers from the 1970's on my setup. Fantastic sound quality though.

It's been an eternity since i posted anything "gamedev" related, but i finally got in the mood and cleaned up a bit in the UI logic. It may not "look cleaner", but i scrapped the old TextEvents middleman i created 4 years ago, when i made the first prototype of my SHMUP. 😅

C&C The First Decade, was fantastic value for the money, back in the day. But the original installers, like Tiberian Sun's, were such a vibe! I pity the C&C fans that never got to experience them!
Well, this is new. I've bought sealed copies and used copies of games, over the years. But don't think I've ever bought a half-sealed copy, still mostly wrapped up, before. 🤔 Upside is, i get a mint-condition box of Tiberian Sun, without having to pay the premium! 😄🥳

The age of the interactive CD-ROM was really something else. Discs, packed with carefully curated multimedia, ready to be enjoyed from the comfort of your home... Without ever having to go online!!! 🤯 And unlike so many websites, STILL accessible after a quarter-century!

Delivery was a few days off the mark, but i did treat myself properly over May 4th, with a new sealed copy! 🥳

Managed to get hold of a pristine original copy of Command & Conquer: Red Alert! I've had The First Decade collection for ages, that was released for Windows XP, but i really wanted an OG copy for my Windows 98 SE Compaq Deskpro. Can't beat them jewel cases!🤤

Finally...With the Matrox G400, i can finally play Star Wars X-Wing Alliance, on max settings, at 1024*768!!! 🥳

Picked up a Matrox G400 and gained about 350 points in 3Dmark 99, over the G450 I've been using. But my holy grail will be the G400 Max! Some day...

We have a whole generation of PC gamers that have been sold on the lie that 60fps is enough, and wanting more is just being "entitled" or "spoiled". Newsflash: 85-120hz displays used to be "the norm". The 60hz standard didn't even become a thing until shitty LCD monitors.

25 years ago, there was a CCG called Star Trek ConQuest Online, pure GaaS game. And you know what? It supported offline play and I can still play with my backed up account, to this very day. So when they say it cant be done, you know they are full of shit. #stopkillinggames

Final hardware configuration of my legacy gaming rig masterpiece? I mean i still need to figure out a proper way to secure the SSD long-term, but other than adding a third HDD there isn't really much room for upgrades or expansion now. 🙂
