Every year in the UK alone 40 million male chicks are killed in the egg industry. The most common method, also considered the most humane, is to drop the chicks into a mechanical macerator whilst still conscious.

Despite the label, many apparently free range chickens in the UK will never spend any time outdoors. Current laws allow farms to house "free range" chickens in cramped barns of up to 16,000 birds per building with just 1m of space for every 9 birds.

Due to ineffectiveness with electric stunning, it is conservatively estimated that 30-40,000 turkeys enter the scalding tank alive where they then boil to death. To combat this many turkeys are now gassed - a painful and panic inducing slaughter method.
