Btw this interview 100% confirmed my theory that David French is merely a contrarian.
Allie writes a book, “Toxic Empathy,” and French’s take is, “Actually, we need MORE empathy.”
Not principled reaction or thoughtful reasoning. Just taking a contrarian position & then working it.
This was evident when Allie pressed him. She pointed out that his criticism of her book was based on his own twisted definition of toxic empathy. He re-defined toxic empathy into a weak straw man toxic empathy, and then he beat the straw man.
This is Frenchism, and once you see it you can’t unsee it. French begins with a contrary position (any issue) then invents arguments to sustain the contrary position.
Talarico isn’t Christian? “Ahh, he’s the MOST Christian.”
Drag Queens should stay away from kids? “Ahh, Drag Queens are a blessing of liberty.”
Donald Trump is the lesser of two evils? “Ahh, Kamala Harris is actually quite conservative.”
It’s the same schtick. Every. Single. Time.
New York Times writer David French joins me today on Relatable to debate pronouns, toxic empathy, James Talarico, voting for Kamala Harris, abortion, and so much more.
