The rest of the story:
On June 4, 2026, around 9:52 a.m., Tulsa Police Officers responded to a possible injury crash at the Riverbend apartments near 83rd and Delaware.
The caller said a seemingly intoxicated man driving a Subaru Crosstrek hit his Toyota Tacoma near the apartment complex gates. Officers arrived and saw the man, 41-year-old Robert Whittington, continuing to hit the Tacoma after the caller had gotten out uninjured.
Officers began giving commands for Whittington to get out of his car, which he refused. As additional Officers arrived, he continued to occasionally press on his gas pedal to push on the Tacoma.
Officers deployed pepper balls to try to convince Whittington to surrender, but to no effect. Eventually, an Officer approached the vehicle and deployed a taser which was effective.
Officers took him out of his car and into custody. Whittington exhibited several signs of intoxication and was taken to the hospital to be medically cleared for jail.
Officers found multiple mini bottles of whiskey, a meth pipe, and a small vial of likely PCP with a cigarette dipped into it. Whittington later admitted to drinking the whiskey and that he had used multiple drugs.
After getting medically cleared, Officers booked Whittington into the Tulsa County Jail for:
- DUI
- Driving with a Revoked License
- Resisting an Officer
- Obstruction
- Driving a Vehicle without Insurance Verification
This is an arrest, not a conviction.
