Retained Fire Station covering Turners Hill and the surrounding areas. Providing support to Crawley, East Grinstead and wherever else they want to send us.
Today we are attending @CrawleyDownRA summer fete. Come over and say ‘Hi’ and see if we can offer any advice on fire safety in the home.
We will also be doing a hot fat fire demonstration at 3pm.
Congratulations to FF Ovenden our newest Firefighter at Turners Hill.
He will continue his development with us and has already shown his dedication throughout his 6 week pre-course drill night attendance.
Today our crews assisted with Crawley Fire Stations open day.
Whilst there we covered their calls, picking up a few throughout the day.
Our last one was a tractor on fire in a field. Crews used Breathing Apparatus and a hose reel to extinguish.
A reminder to test your smoke alarms and to turn off non essential electrical appliances at night!! After a family was woken by their smoke alarm alerting them to a fire in the kitchen crews from Turners Hill & Burgess Hill attended the property in the early hours this morning.
The activation of the alarm resulted in the family being able to evacuate the property and the early intervention of the Fire Service meant the fire was contained to a small area of the kitchen.
Last night our crews worked through some extraction techniques
Cars don’t always stay on all four wheels when involved in a crash
A car on its side poses access problems for all blue light services
By removing the roof once the vehicle is stabilised we can create plenty of access
A new installation at the station.
We are always looking for dedicated individuals to join our team.
We are also always looking for vehicles for us to train with.
All the info is on the banners now hanging proudly at the front of our station.
It was great to have our CFO, DCFO & ACFO attend the station tonight to present meet the chiefs to our West Sussex colleagues. We believe it’s the first time the three most senior officers have attended the station at the same time.
This afternoon our crews have been involved in a salvage exercise at Standen House. Our crew worked alongside @EGFireRescue to test the salvage plans for this historic building.
It’s been a long, wet day but all of the crews have worked very hard alongside the house staff.
Yesterday our crews supported @CrawleyFire999 by standing by at their station while they trained at our new Training Centre.
While the cat’s away the mice will play. We made sure to utilise our time there to train a pump-ladder drill.
A view from the top of the village tree on the green.
And one of the tree in full illumination.
Thanks to a couple of our dedicated crew members the tree is now finished.
Merry Christmas.
This morning crews joined the residents of Crawley Down to remember those who have served and still serve in the armed services.
This afternoon our crews along with their families also paid our respects at St Leonard’s Church joining parishioners to remember the fallen.
Electrical fire safety is an important part of reducing the risk of having a fire at home.
Overloading sockets can cause fires in the home. Crews have made sure to remove these multiple multi-plug adapters during a Safe and Well visit and have given the occupier some good advice
In the lead up to the cold weather if you have an electric blanket we strongly advise you get it tested. Especially if it has been stored folded up in a cupboard.
Testing electric blankets for faults greatly reduces the chance of them causing a fire.
This week we welcome our newest firefighter, FF Andy Williamson. He has finished his initial recruits course and all of the candidates have passed with flying colours.
Welcome Andy and welcome to all of the other new firefighters. You have joined a brilliant job. Have fun.
Today our crews are at Crawley Down Summer Fete. We’ve just completed a hot fat fire demonstration.
We’re here all day (barring fire calls) to meet you all and offer fire safety advice.
We’re also taking details for anyone looking to have a Safe and Well visit in their home, where we give specific home fire safety advice to occupants in their own homes.
Crews are currently at Truckfest at the Showground with @SussexSRP. We’re showing people around the truck and talking about home fire and road safety.
Come and say hello if you get the chance.
