Closing Remarks:
I believe Miami is much closer to the ultimate goal of winning a championship, or at least being a real top tier team, than a lot of the fans and media give them credit for. Last season, they had no go-to star and dealt with the most injuries of any non-tanking team in the association. Despite lacking a real star option as their #1 guy and dealing with all the struggles due to injury, Miami won 43 games (only 3 less than the 5 seed Raptors). Adding a real #1 option in Antetokounmpo and filling in the bench frontcourt depth immediately propels Miami into the top tier of Eastern Conference teams with New York and a healthy Celtics team. In this scenario, Miami also follows the Spurs' and Thunder's blueprint of filling in the roster next to their stars with young pieces that have the potential to develop into stars while immediately contributing (such as Harper/Castle/Bryant in San Antonio and Mitchell/McCain/Wallace in OKC). The goal here is to fill in the roster next to Antetokounmpo and Adebayo with youth, defensive versatility, and pieces that can fit into the core for years to come even when Antetokounmpo is done. I expect 20 y/o Jakucionis and 25 y/o Larsson to continue their development this season, and be the starting backcourt for the team by the season's end. I also see Jaquez continuing to improve and closing out games for Miami as a key piece at just 25 years old. Being able to retain Jakucionis/Larsson/Jaquez in this move gives Miami 3 young pieces with immense upside that can have immediate impact next to the star duo of Antetokounmpo and Adebayo and other pieces. Additionally, this gives Miami young defense, length, and athleticism at all positions allowing them to fare up against any matchup in the postseason. Finally, the main benefit of having these extended young guys and retaining veterans like Mitchell, Powell, and Wiggins while adding in Robinson and Achiuwa, is that it gives Miami a plethora of tradable decent scaled contracts and with Miami having 2 first round picks eligible to be traded next off-season, this opens the possibility for Miami to acquire a 3rd star in the next off-season next to Antetokounmpo and Adebayo if they fall short in this year's postseason. A package of Powell, Mitchell, and 2 FRPs could land them a 3rd star such as Irving, Markkanen, Maxey, Murray, Garland, etc. while retaining their depth and their young core (Jakucionis/Larsson/Jaquez) to develop.
