Woman at the cafe just told the barista she was at the Knicks game last night and everyone surrounded her all misty-eyed asking her what it was like to be there like she witnessed the fall of the Berlin Wall

Wild: to meet senior leader demands to sharply increase detention capacity, ICE & Army turned to a pool of contractors w/ no "prior experience providing detention services" to run Camp East Montana—then awarded a contract but "did not review the contractor's approach" beforehand
GAO just published a must-read report on East Camp, Montana, the 5,000-person ICE camp outside El Paso. The Army and ICE rushed to build this facility in 2025. The report documents repeated financial waste and violations of ICE's own detention standards. Including a detainee homicide where the contractor destroyed evidence related to the event. (1/3)

Senate version of Blumenthal/Frost's bicameral Right to Record Act (below) would add new legal consequences for federal/immigration enforcement officers who prevent (already constitutionally protected acts of) recording/observing/peacefully protesting law enforcement activities
🧊RECORDING ICE: I got the text of @RepMaxwellFrost’s bill making it illegal for federal agents to stop people from recording their activities. Notable: Bill would bar feds from threatening a person filming them w/ adding their info or “biometric characteristics” to a database.

On Saturday, while covering a protest at Delaney Hall for the AP, Angelina Katsanis' camera bag went missing. Inside was $10K worth of gear, her biz cards and an Airtag -- which soon began to ping from home of a NJ sergeant. He's now facing charges. apnews.com/article/delaney-h…

NEW: Watchdog @weareoversight submitted a complaint to the U.S. Office of Special Counsel alleging Kristi Noem may have violated the Hatch Act by taking a taxpayer funded trip to a Republican event in June 2025 and DHS's use of its official Flickr to publicize Noem's attendance.

At least 97 people Trump gave clemency for Jan. 6 have been arrested for, charged with, or convicted of crimes unrelated to Jan. 6 since that day five years ago. (via @lawfare) lawfaremedia.org/article/the…

Read @lukebroadwater's @nytimes coverage of @lawfare's Jan. 6 clemency study below:
NEW: A stunning new project from @lawfare's Katherine Pompilio finds that 97 Jan. 6ers who received clemency for their role in the Capitol riot then got arrested, charged, and/or convicted with subsequent crimes—a number much higher than previously reported.
