A word of caution. A viral infection decreases, but does not eliminate risk of IBI! AAP guidelines rec blood testing on any febrile infant < 60 d regardless of viral status as we do not yet know how to modify guidelines based on viral infection. See # 12 in research priorities!
Replying to @nkuppermann
In 2nd mo of life, if viral test , I still get UA because UTIs remain common, but only get blood if temp is higher. Unclear what that is but for sure if temp >=38.5. And whole thread contingent on well appearance! See AAP guidelines and Editorial to be published in Pediatrics
