"She's a great shooter, but..." "He's really athletic, but..." "She's a solid defender, but..." "He's a great teammate, but..." For over 20 years, I've worked at different levels of basketball. Elementary school. Middle school. High school. AAU. Division I. Even the NBA. I've heard some version of those comments hundreds of times. And I'm as guilty as anyone. Sometimes I wonder if we spend so much time focusing on what players AREN'T that we forget to appreciate what they ARE. Not every player is supposed to be great at everything! That's why it's called a team. One player spaces the floor. One player rebounds. One player communicates. One player defends. One player brings energy. One player makes everyone around them better.  The magic happens when those strengths come TOGETHER! Of course we should help players improve their weaknesses. But let's not become so obsessed with fixing what's missing that we overlook what's already special. I've seen talented players lose confidence because people only talked about what they lacked. I've also seen average players become really good players because someone recognized what they brought to the table and helped them build from there. Confidence grows when people know their strengths matter. Read that again. Great teams aren't built when everyone becomes the same. They're built when everyone brings something valuable to the table.

In sports, it’s easy to believe that everything you’ve achieved came solely from your own hard work and determination. While discipline and effort matter, every opportunity, talent, and blessing is ultimately a gift from God.

The Dragonettes finished Day 2 at MTSU with Varsity defeating Lakeland Prep and losing to Lebanon. JV defeated William James and lost to White Co.

Go where YOU are WANTED. Go where YOU are VALUED. Go where YOU are COMMITTED.

Lady Jet Basketball Summer Season Loading! 2026-27 Lady Jets & Incoming 9th Graders take the court for 1st practices of the summer⬇️ ➡️Thursday & Friday➡️11AM-1PM. Team🏀Camps to follow in June: UTC, VANDERBILT, MTSU, BCAT HOOPFEST, & LHS.

If you don’t ask, the answer is always no. At some point, we have to stop letting fear and overthinking keep us from opportunities that could move us forward.

Pet peeve after offering a kid a scholarship… Comment from Current Adult in their Life: “Congrats! First of many! Can’t wait to see the many more offers to come!” Me: “How about I withdraw my offer & leave y’all to go collect 100 more offers to feel validated? 🤣” Moral of the story — You need the ONE right offer to have a successful college career, not 100 offers to get likes online. Don’t push kids to collect a million offers just to have them. You want the RIGHT offer to go have a successful, fulfilling career!
