University of Florida officials are monitoring several wildfires that are burning in @AlachuaCounty and the surrounding region. As of Monday afternoon, the UF main campus nor any UF units in Alachua County or elsewhere in the state are currently threatened by any of the fires. Both fires within @GainesvilleGov are nearing containment, and no homes are currently in danger, according to Gainesville Fire Rescue. While Alachua County has declared a state of emergency to assist its wildfire operations, no public health advisories are currently in place.  As such, no operational changes are anticipated for the UF campus in Gainesville. Should the need arise, any changes to UF’s operating status will be communicated through official channels, such as the UF Alert Emergency Notification System, the UF homepage and here. Long-term, the risk of more wildfires remains high as the region is in extreme drought conditions, and will likely remain high until significant rainfall occurs. The university community is encouraged to follow guidance from local authorities regarding wildfires. Updates and resources: statements.ufl.edu/statement…

Campus Safety Message: The University of Florida Police Department would like to provide an update regarding a series of hoax email threats issued to different departments at the University of Florida. As of 3 p.m. on Monday, multiple offices throughout UF continued to receive similar, if not identical, hoax email threats or calls. The campuses and units affected have expanded beyond the Gainesville campus, to include UF Health Jacksonville. Each campus or unit affected by these threats is working with local law enforcement agencies. None of the threats received at the Gainesville campus have been found to be credible. Higher-education institutions across the nation are often the target of hoax threats, including UF. Despite the pervasiveness of these hoax threats, UFPD takes all reports seriously and asks the campus community to do the same. UFPD encourages the UF community to remain vigilant and report anything that may seem suspicious to police. Members of the Gainesville campus should call 352-392-1111, while UF locations throughout the state should immediately contact local law enforcement. In the event of an actual incident that poses an immediate threat to the health and safety of the campus community, an emergency notification will be issued through the UF Alert System.

Campus Safety Message: The University of Florida Police Department would like to share information regarding increased law enforcement activity around the Gainesville campus. On Monday, Feb. 23, several University of Florida departments received emails threatening the safety of different locations of the campus. UFPD promptly confirmed that no incident occurred and that the threats are consistent with a hoax. These hoax emails are consistent with a similar incident that took place on the evening of Friday, Feb. 20. While law enforcement has confirmed that there is no threat to safety, UFPD encourages the campus community to remain vigilant and report anything that may seem suspicious to police by calling 352-392-1111. In the event of a dangerous incident that poses an immediate threat to the health and safety of the campus community, an emergency notification would be issued through the UF Alert System.
