A friend said to me that I’m one of the only people he knows that doesn’t have to have things a certain way and I said “Some of us have to be flexible for all you inflexible people.”

Laughing because this is essentially what I do as a librarian. I tell people what would be cool to research, help them find sources and then send them on their way.

I know this is completely irrational because they are totally necessary, but out of office messages annoy me. Some are just a little too smug. We know you are out - do you have to rub it in?! 🤣

Was telling my son that I’ve had almost no conflict with people at work except for a student I supervised years ago who refused to do any work. And he said “you realize that she’s probably telling her kids the story about the mean librarian who gave her too much work to do.” 🤣

Every time I walk past this in the library I think “how many of these people know their young, cool activist self is on an exhibit panel 50 years later?”

Years ago while out at karaoke a friend said to me “What you lack in talent you make up for with enthusiasm” and I feel like that has been my brand ever since. 🤣

While dropping my son off at school I saw this half asleep little boy stumbling down the hallway with major bed head clutching a zip lock bag of cheeze-its and it was such a vibe. 👏

No big deal - just my 25th first day of classes on the @UF campus. Our @uflib tabling game is always strong.

So question, and sorry if this makes me sound old, but are we really supposed to be downloading apps for every store, restaurant, and event we go to? And that’s just OK with everybody now?

Funny convo I had with an instructor this week: Me: If you are short on time you can always tell your students they can reach out and meet with me for research help. Them: Do students actually do that? Me: Yeah, all the time. I have two consultations scheduled today. Them: Oh 🤣

Every time I walk past these classrooms I think about the time I took a creative writing class in this same building and I wrote a short story that one of my classmates HATED and tore apart during the evaluation, while another told me it was his favorite of the whole class. 🤣

"The media center at Winter Park was often used for standardized testing, so it never seemed available for students to come in." Well, duh - Of course they are not checking out books! Library resources need to be promoted via outreach and spaces should be inviting and inclusive.
In June, Florida told school libraries to yank ‘pornographic’ books. But most had never been checked out, new data shows. In fact, book checkouts are down by a million in OCPS since 2016, largely because of smart phones. My latest for @orlandosentinel: orlandosentinel.com/2025/07/…
