Livestock does not come only from Somaliland or northwestern Somalia. It comes from across the Somali Peninsula and is exported through Berbera, with a significant portion also exported through Bosaso, as these are the closest major ports to Saudi Arabia.
And here's something even more interesting that separatists don't want you to know: the federal government of Somalia taxes livestock exports from Berbera. 😬
How? Exporters must obtain licenses and animal health certification from Mogadishu, with the relevant fees paid to the federal government. Without those documents, Saudi authorities will not accept livestock shipments from unlicensed traders.
