In Berlin, it was an honour to join the celebration of the 75th anniversary of Germany’s accession to
@UNESCO and the establishment of the National Commission, alongside the Federal Minister of Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, Karin Prien; the President of the German Commission for UNESCO, Maria Böhmer; the State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office, Géza Andreas von Geyr.
This milestone offers an important opportunity to pay tribute to Germany’s longstanding commitment to multilateral cooperation and to UNESCO’s mandate.
Across the country, this commitment is reflected in a rich and diverse UNESCO network — from World Heritage sites, biosphere reserves, geoparks, creative cities and Memory of the World inscriptions, to Associated Schools, university Chairs, Learning Cities, and the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning in Hamburg and the UNESCO International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training in Bonn.
Germany is one of UNESCO’s key partners. Its support is expressed not only through financial contributions, but also through the expertise, dedication and engagement of its institutions, educators, researchers, artists, youth and local communities.
UNESCO is deeply grateful for this partnership, and I look forward to continuing to strengthen our cooperation.
