Pinned tweet: if you’re wondering why you were blocked, it’s your NFT avatar (or other NFT garbage) and its environmental costs. Stop vice signaling.
If you don’t have an NFT avatar, it was probably transphobia.
I kinda thought I was just on hiatus from Twitter but maybe it’s gonna be permanent one way or another. My writing is still at belkadan.com/blog (with newsfeed), and my email is jrose at that domain, if anyone really needs to reach me. And I’m, you know, around.
Abortions are and have always been health care.
Abortions are and have always been part of body autonomy.
Abortions are and have always been necessary.

The thing about that “trans rights are not a priority while we’re headed towards full fascism” tweet is that the fascism usually starts at liquidation of the minority groups perceived as a minor “fringe” and rapidly escalates from there. There’s a popular poem about this.
From covid-19.acgov.org/data, on a one-week lag: Two weeks ago we were coming off the Omicron spike (so big it doesn't fit on a scale with the Delta spike, mid-left), but then the unvaccinated case rate (yellow) shot back up (BA.2?). But the vaccinated rate is still dropping.
ALT "Case Rate 7-Day Average" graph, showing spikes for Delta and Omicron. At the very right edge of the graph, the unvaccinated case rate is sharply rising again, jumping from 17/100k to 34/100k in six days. But the vaccinated case rate is still falling, going from about 5/100k to 2/100k in the same time period. The previous waves don't show this pattern at all; both vaccinated and unvaccinated rates started rising at about the same time.
The vaccines aren't perfect, we've still got a lot more breakthrough infections than for other diseases we've got vaccines before, but damn if they aren't making an incredible difference.
UPDATE: The graph looks like this today, so maybe there was a data error. :-( Overall this is probably good news, I don't *want* a bunch of unvaccinated people to get sick.
ALT The same graph as before, except now both the vaccinated and unvaccinated case rates have leveled off post-Omicron in the last few days shown, with no sudden spikes. (Which is still a week ago.)
So the latest controversy on book twitter is that someone with a lot of author friends wrote a gendercide book, which usually are terrible about trans people. The author said the book wasn’t terrible about trans people. The author’s friends said to read the book before judging…
I'm not the first to say it, but I will say it again:
It is VERY important that you order your allotted tests, even if you don't think you need them.
If there is not obvious demand, they will be able to justify not continuing to offer them, even when you do.

The workers at the Amy's Kitchen factory have called for a boycott of Amy's Kitchen products due to unsafe working conditions, union busting, denial of bathroom breaks, and not providing access to drinking water.
Stand with workers. Boycott Amy's.
Please note. This bill STILL has to pass the Idaho senate!
If you are pissed, GET TO WORK and CALL THOSE NUMBERS!
Especially if you are in Idaho

Idaho's house just passed HB 675.
It passed by a vote of 55-13.
It would make providing gender affirming care to trans teens a felony with a life sentence..
Worse... it makes leaving the state with your trans teen to move elsewhere and provide them with care a felony as well.
Let me remind you that Belarus is an authoritarian country. We haven't chosen this government. We've tried to overthrow it, and we failed. We paid with our lives, blood and freedom for the attempt.
Because it came up at work, a recap of Swift pointer nomenclature:
- Unsafe - because it is
- ? Mutable - vs const
- ? Raw - vs typed, puts the specialness of C's `void *` in its own type
- ? Buffer - knows its length
- Pointer - because it doesn't own the data
Swift regret: OpaquePointer
OpaquePointer is the type used by Swift for any pointer to a forward-declared C struct with no definition. This is a pretty common C idiom for library evolution and encapsulation…that Swift just drops on the floor.
