Following the training camp at Trinity College, Cambridge, Anango and Michael from @kingsmathschool have been named in the UK IMO Squad, while Anango and Emily from @CamMathsSchool have been selected for the UK team heading to the Balkan Mathematical Olympiad in Thessaloniki, Greece, this May. Emily will also represent the UK at the 15th European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad in Bordeaux, France, this week. Congratulations to our CEO, Dan Abramson OBE 🎉 Yesterday evening, the Academy for the Mathematical Sciences appointed its Founding Fellows at the Royal Society, London - a historic milestone for the Academy and for the role of mathematics in the UK’s future. As part of this inaugural cohort, Dan joins an exceptional group spanning academia, education, industry and government - including Fields Medalists, leaders in computing and machine learning, senior public servants, educators and science communicators - brought together to help tackle some of the UK’s biggest challenges through mathematical insight. As a Founding Fellow, Dan will contribute to shaping how mathematical science informs public policy, innovation and long-term national decision-making, ensuring rigorous, evidence-led thinking sits at the heart of government and industry. Dan said: "I'm delighted and honoured to be a founding Fellow of the Academy, and am excited to contribute to its mission and to help strengthen and diversify the pipeline of future mathematical scientists." Our CEO, Dan Abramson OBE, was honoured to give the after-dinner speech at the @ActuaryCompany Burns Night celebration at Drapers’ Hall. Drawing on Robert Burns, John Napier, and Scotland’s tradition of the 'democratic intellect', Dan spoke about how University Maths Schools help mathematical talent thrive regardless of background - so the next great mind needn’t be born a Laird. It felt particularly fitting to celebrate this message with the Worshipful Company of Actuaries, who support innovative projects across the University Maths Schools Network, including @CamMathsSchool, Exeter Maths School, @kingsmathschool, @LUSoM_ and @LeedsMathSchool.
