Charging Fees Not Prescribed by UNEB
According to Section 33 of the UNEB Act, Cap 259, it is an offence to charge fees not prescribed by UNEB and refer to them as “UNEB fees.”
Heads of Centres and School Directors are therefore cautioned against presenting any additional administrative costs as UNEB fees.
Such an offence attracts a penalty of:
A fine of two thousand currency points (equivalent to Forty Million Shillings),
Or imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years, Or both.
Additionally, any person convicted shall be required to refund all unauthorized charges to the affected students or their sponsors.
The Board will also withdraw the school’s examination centre status. Furthermore, where the convicted person is a registered teacher, they shall be deregistered in accordance with the relevant laws governing the teaching profession.
Parents or members of the public who are charged exorbitant fees falsely presented as UNEB registration fees are encouraged to report such cases to the nearest police station.
