The important piece for hockey in the updated proposal was a path existing for players to earn a 4-year degree even if they enter college at 20 after aging out of juniors.
Under the old proposal 20 year olds would only have 2-3 years (depending on their DOB/HS grad).

Under the hockey counterproposal, the 5-year clock begins the academic year following a player's 19th birthday or initial college enrollment. Whichever comes first.
Huge win for college hockey. The commissioners worked extremely hard on pushing this proposal.

Breaking: The NCAA D1 Cabinet met and further discussed the hockey model today.
Sources say the NCAA will adopt hockey’s proposed model, where the eligibility clock begins the season following an athlete’s 19th birthday or college enrollment, removing HS graduation.
