Since entering into force in 2021, the TPNW has grown into a living instrument for disarmament, with 99 signatories and ratified by 74 states parties. Yet nearly 12,000 nuclear weapons still exist, and the risk of nuclear war remains real.

ALT Marking 80 years since the first UN General Assembly convened in London, leaders, diplomats, civil society, and young people gathered to reflect on the past and renew our commitment to the future.
From peace and security to climate risk and global inequality, one theme stood out: no nation can solve today’s challenges alone.
The United Nations was founded on a radical idea; that dialogue is stronger than force. At 80, that idea matters more than ever.

ALT Human Rights Day 2025
On this Human Rights Day, we reflect on the promise and the gaps in global human rights. While laws like the UDHR and CEDAW set a universal standard, women and girls still face systemic violence, inequality, and digital and climate-based threats.
Progress has been made—education, health, and representation have improved—but millions remain at risk. Rights only matter when they’re enforced, funded, and protected in everyday life.
Human Rights Day is a reminder: dignity, equality, and justice are not abstract ideals—they are essentials. Let’s stand with those whose voices are silenced, defend our shared humanity, and turn hope into action.

1/ ICAN is gravely concerned by escalating hostilities between nuclear-armed India and Pakistan, including last night’s missile strikes and nuclear threats. A nuclear exchange would be catastrophic for the world.
