Grading 18 final exams on the patio of the hotel in LA in between Rush shows at the Kia Forum. Last night was awesome with lots of unexpected song choices, including the entirety of 2112! 🤯 Curious what night #3 will entail - additional unearthed songs or repeat of night #1???

THIS 👇 – DO IT if you can!!! I have attended every ISNA meeting since 1992 in Victoria, BC. Absolutely the BEST conference for all things related to aromaticity/conjugated molecules! A great community of scientists and I always learn fascinating new stuff every meeting.
ISNA-21 is this coming August 9-14th — we hope you will join us in Beijing! Some important deadlines are coming up at the end of June: 1. Abstract submission 2. Early bird registration Check out the website (isna2026.scimeeting.cn/en/we…) and follow the links for all the details.

$65M recurring debt??? HOW did our overpaid administrators not see this train wreck coming?!?!? EVERY administrator should take an immediate 10% pay cut & every Dean/Provost/President a 20% cut. UO will be utterly decimated by this incompetence... #UOwe dailyemerald.com/188118/news…

Very cool – the UO "IFers" approve!
Our manuscript on the redox activity and near-infrared optical properties of doubly boron-doped indenofluorenes (DBIF) is now published in @J_A_C_S (pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/jac…)! Colleen debuts the DB[2,1-b ]IF isomer and an unusual 19π e- IF! #maingroup @DavidJDWilson

Decided this past weekend was time as garden beds 1 & 3 are fully planted–tomatoes, peppers & eggplant in bed 1 and lettuce, fennel, tomatillo, garlic, bok choy & cherry tomatoes in bed 3. Bed 2 still a work in progress. Bok choy is delicious! #chemistswhogarden #chemistswhocook

Plants & more plants—early April and the "pre-garden" is going strong! Now waiting for it to be consistently >45 F/7 C at night before I stick them in the ground. That said, lettuces & other greens have already supplied my 1st full pot of 100% homegrown salad! #chemistswhogarden

Very cool!
Our paper about Donor-Acceptor Pentacene Analogues is finally online in Angewandte Chemie 🎉 My sincere thanks to all co-authors for the great collaboration! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/… @kawon1 @CForoutanNejad @IOC_PAS @NCN_PL

My god – talk about air travel whiplash!!! Trip to ATL for ACS meeting = 5 min in EUG for security. Trip next to Germany for mini-symposium = 80 min in ATL security AND 110 min to clear customs in FRA. Flight home = 15 min total in FRA and 10 min total in DEN. WTF?!?!?

Proud "papa" moment in ATL before the start of the ACS meeting – left is Asst Prof Jeremy Bard (Washington Coll) and right is Assoc Prof Blake Tresca (Kalamazoo Coll) – could not be more proud of these two as alumni of the joint Haley/Johnson supramolecular chemistry project.

What a tremendous loss for the novel aromatics/hydrocarbon community. Henning welcomed me at ISNA-8 in Braunschweig in 1995 like a full-fledged colleague even though I was a young no-name assistant professor. That was the kind of person he was. RIP my friend – you'll be missed!😢
🌻Henning Hopf passed away on March 12 only three months after his 85th birthday x.com/livesinchem/status/199… A great organic chemist who had deeply cared about our community—a true “mensch”—has left us. Lives in Chemistry l-i-c.org lost a most insightful Advisory Board member who had enormously contributed to this endeavor from the beginning.

In my happy place—garden 2026 is in the ground! While it's only the beginning of March, winter has skipped Oregon this year. I've planted cool weather veggies–arugula, mizuna, lettuce, mixed greens, onions, bok choy, spinach, maché and garlic. Tomato starts are in my windowsill!

At long last—a GREAT effort by Megan & Nolan finally out in JACS after a 2 year gestation. We found quadruply hydrogen-bonded DADA azaphosphinine homodimers are preferred over the theoretically more stable DDAA dimers with STRONG dimerization constants. pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10.102…

Not a bad view wine tasting @brookswinery this afternoon with three junior colleagues. Excellent seafood today - oysters on the half shell, scallop ceviche, crab and shrimp cakes, and miso marinated black cod. Find the 4 mountains - St. Helens, Adams, Hood and Jefferson!

This should be an AWESOME meeting as Liangbing and his team will not disappoint! Also, I am honored to be chosen as one of the speakers. This will be my 15th(!) consecutive ISNA to attend since 1992! 🤓😮😍
The ISNA-21 website is up and running! isna2026.scimeeting.cn/en/we… 30 Plenary and Invited Speakers have been announced: isna2026.scimeeting.cn/en/we… Registration and abstract submission open in March. First held in 1970, please join us in Beijing in August 2026 for all things "aromatic"!

Forgive me ⁦@nytcooking⁩ as I bastardized Mellisa Clark’s garlicky chicken recipe by adding the mushrooms and roasted peppers from Yewande Komolafe’s spicy chicken thigh recipe. The mashup was crazy good! Not a bite was left and RB2 licked the plate clean! #chemistswhocook

This is so VERY wrong, picking cherry tomatoes on January 10 in Eugene, OR. The plants should have been blasted by a hard freeze some 2 months ago but that freeze has yet to occur. Anyway I yanked the plants this afternoon and gathered this intact fruit 🤯 Global warming indeed!
