🤝 Together for Child Protection! URA was proud to participate in the Child Protection Awareness Programme at Claremont Primary School, alongside Eldorado Park Women’s Forum, Lifeline, Rahima Moosa Hospital Social Work Department, SANCA Central Rand Westbury, The Family Life Centre (FAMSA), Youth Revival, educators, social workers, faith leaders, and community stakeholders. The event brought together schools, social workers, healthcare professionals, faith leaders, and community organisations to educate learners about child protection, children’s rights, personal safety, anti-bullying, emotional well-being, substance abuse prevention, leadership, and responsibility. Special appreciation is extended to the social workers of The Family Life Centre (FAMSA), particularly Fatima, Alick Majoni and their colleagues, for their outstanding moderation, coordination, and facilitation of the programme and thank you to everyone who contributed to this important initiative. Through collective action and community partnership, we can create safer environments where every child is protected, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential. Protecting a child is protecting the future. #ChildProtection #ChildrensRights #URA #FAMSA #Lifeline #SANCA #YouthDevelopment #CommunityPartnership #Johannesburg

The social workers from FAMSA played a particularly important role throughout the programme by facilitating and moderating the event. Following the opening remarks and prayer, they introduced the speakers, guided the programme flow, and encouraged active learner participation. After each presentation, they reflected on the topics discussed, reinforced key messages, and helped create meaningful interaction between learners and presenters.

On 18 May 2026, the Universal Rights Association (URA), together with partner organisations and community stakeholders, successfully conducted a Child Protection and Youth Empowerment programme at Westbury High School as part of #ChildProtectionMonth activities. The programme was organised in cooperation with FAMSA, Gun Free South Africa @GunFreeSA, Youth Revival, SAPS @SAPoliceService, SANCA @SANCANational (The South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence) and other community partners committed to the wellbeing and protection of young people. The event focused on children’s rights, violence prevention, responsible decision-making, education, leadership, and the importance of building safer communities for future generations. Learners actively participated in discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and educational activities throughout the programme. The programme featured contributions from several community stakeholders and facilitators, including Fatima from FAMSA, Wendell Louw and Malvern De Wee from Youth Revival, Officer from SAPS, Lareeze from SANCA (The South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence), Enes Gungoren from URA, and Marlene Matlala from Gun Free South Africa, who presented an engaging “MythBusters” awareness session focusing on violence prevention, safety, and responsible decision-making. We extend our sincere appreciation to the management and Principal of Westbury High School for their warm hospitality and cooperation, as well as to all participating organisations and facilitators for contributing to the success of this meaningful initiative. Special thanks to the management of TIME TO CARE @TimeToCareSA and Mr. Huseyin Kubilay for their valuable support and contribution. URA Statement | ECHR Grand Chamber Judgment in Yasak v. Türkiye European Court of Human Rights Grand Chamber has delivered its judgment in Yasak v. Türkiye, finding violations of both Article 3 and Article 7 of the European Convention on Human Rights. Following the Yüksel Yalçınkaya v. Türkiye judgment, the Yasak decision represents another important development in ongoing discussions concerning the application of universal legal principles, proportionality, foreseeability, and individual criminal responsibility. We believe that the consistent implementation of international human rights obligations is not only important for Türkiye, but for all democratic societies committed to justice, accountability, and human dignity. 🇿🇦 The Day Freedom Became a Right for All Freedom Day is observed to mark 27 April 1994, the day South Africa held its first democratic elections, where all citizens, regardless of race, were finally allowed to vote. This day represents the end of apartheid, a system that denied millions their basic rights, and the beginning of a new democratic era grounded in equality, dignity, and justice. It is not only a celebration of political freedom, but a reminder of the sacrifices made to achieve it and the ongoing responsibility to protect and strengthen these freedoms for all. United in Diversity. Advancing dignity, justice, and equality. Happy Freedom Day. 🇿🇦 #FreedomDay #HumanRights #URA
