Please pray for the Most Rev. James A. Tamayo, Bishop Emeritus of Laredo, who was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Corpus Christi fifty years ago today on June 11, 1976.

Pope Leo XIV has accepted the resignation of the Most Rev. F. Richard Spencer, 75, from the Office of Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese for the Military Services. Bishop Spencer was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Baltimore in 1988 before being appointed and receiving episcopal consecration as Auxiliary Bishop for the Military Services in 2010.

Let's all pray today for the Most Rev. Peter L. Smith, Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon, who was ordained a priest for the same archdiocese twenty-five years ago today on June 9, 2001.

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Father Mark A. Moore, pastor of Christ the King University Parish and St. Paul Parish, Athens; Holy Cross Parish, Glouster; and Sacred Heart Parish, Pomeroy; who died June 3 at the age of 49.

My family and I had the immense privilege of attending a First Mass of Thanksgiving for a newly ordained priest for our diocese and receiving his first priestly blessing. Our priests are such a gift to the people of God and are deserving of our affection, prayer, and support.

Please pray for His Eminence Adam Cardinal Maida, Archbishop Emeritus of Detroit, who was ordained a priest 70 years ago today. Cardinal Maida was born in East Vandergrift, Pennsylvania in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Pittsburgh on May 26, 1956. In 1983, Saint John Paul II appointed him as the ninth Bishop of Green Bay. In 1990, he was appointed as the fourth Archbishop of Detroit. Saint John Paul II elevated him to the Sacred College of Cardinals in 1994. He retired in 2009.
