USC Price Professor Shaun Harper writes in Inside Higher Ed that the digital divide extends beyond internet access, examining how disparities in technology resources and opportunities may be shaped by emerging technologies like AI. Harper discusses the potential for communities to be left behind as AI becomes more integrated into education and society. He also outlines plans for the National AI Equity Lab, which will study inequities in how AI technologies are developed and implemented. For years, access to clean drinking water has been a major global development priority. New research from USC and the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) suggests that food insecurity may have an even greater impact on people's daily lives and well-being. The written study, led in part by @USCSchaeffer's Wändi Bruine de Bruin, found that food insecurity was more strongly associated with negative outcomes —including lower well-being and greater difficulty meeting basic needs, highlighting the importance of addressing food access alongside water access when developing policies and programs aimed at improving quality of life worldwide. A team of Master of Public Administration (MPA) students— Jilla Nadimi, Robert Fierro, Matan Marder Friedgood, and Alexander Ryan—recently completed a capstone project aimed at improving traffic safety on Los Angeles streets. Inspired in part by Nadimi's own experience surviving a serious traffic collision, the team partnered with Los Angeles City Councilmember Traci Park to examine safety challenges. Through extensive research, stakeholder interviews, and community engagement, they developed recommendations for safer street designs and a phased implementation strategy that earned them the John Randolph and Dora Haynes Foundation Recognition Award for Outstanding Capstone, the USC Price School's highest honor for MPA capstone projects. New research asks a simple question: Which climate terms resonate most with the public? USC's Jenna Blyler and Wändi Bruine de Bruin surveyed more than 1,000 Los Angeles County residents and found that "climate justice" was the least familiar climate-related term—and generated less concern and willingness to act than more familiar phrases like "climate change" and "global warming." The study highlights the power of language in shaping public understanding and support for climate action. Read more about the findings: uscprice.page/3PE9rZ0 @USCSchaeffer | @USCDornsife

Today is Election Day! Does every vote matter? Absolutely. As Center for Inclusive Democracy (@CID_Research) Director @MindySRomero explains, every individual's vote contributes to the collective voice that shapes our elections, races, and initiatives. One vote may not decide every outcome, but every vote is part of the total that does. Whether an issue seems certain to pass or the race appears too close to call, voting is more than influencing a result—it's an expression of your values, needs, and priorities. You never know how close an election could be. Most importantly, your participation matters. Make your voice heard. Vote today: votesc.turbovote.org/
