CWU inspired policy has PASSED both Houses of Parliament.
"The Employment Rights Bill is a genuine improvement to millions of working people’s lives that has been fought for by unions after nearly a decade of campaigning. These positive changes will now become law, despite the best efforts of unelected Lords and bad bosses.
However, the work does not stop here. The CWU, alongside other unions, will continue to campaign for the swift and effective implementation of the policies in the legislation. We will also keep campaigning for the government to go further and introduce sectoral collective bargaining, tackle the gig economy and introduce a single status of worker.
Today must also herald the beginning of a new style of business leadership in the UK. CEO’s and shareholders should be motivated by building companies that provide decently-paid, secure jobs, rather than awarding themselves record pay, while their workers are paid poverty wages. This is what will secure long-term, sustainable growth for our entire economy.
We will be pushing the Labour government to go further and fully empower both workers and trade unions over the next few years and once again, we encourage every worker in the country to join a trade union."
Dave Ward, CWU General Secretary.
