June 3, 1967
On βthe third of June, another sleepy, dusty delta day,β Billie Joe McAllister jumps off the Tallahatchie Bridge, as fictional story is recounted in Bobbie Gentryβs haunting ballad Ode to Billie Joe. Released in 1967, βOde to Billie Joeβ became a cultural phenomenon, topping the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks and earning Bobbie Gentry two Grammy Awards.

Giant Steps by The Boo Radleys is possibly the finest album made by any British group in the 1990s, and yet all most people remember them for is that bloody awful Wake Up song, the worst thing they ever did. Shame.
