Through our learning, teaching, & research we are finding better ways to engage the community in scientific issues. Tweets by #scicomm students & staff @UWANews
We acknowledge that the University of Western Australia campus is situated on Noongar land, and that Noongar people remain the spiritual and cultural custodians of their land, and continue to practise their values, languages, beliefs and knowledge
If you have any queries or want to participate in this study, you are welcome to contact researchers at:
Chief Investigator Dr. Heather Bray:
Email: heather.bray@uwa.edu.au
Research Student Crystal Ngo:
Email: scicom-sbs@uwa.edu.au
Next up is Clare Boon of @UWASciComm
She asserts #scicomm has a diversity problem. Her research looked at the lived experience of queer people at university and how their experiences led them to their area of study.
So great to hear from @TamPinkerton about her research at #ASCSS2022 - all about disability inclusion in #CitizenScience!
"Inclusion needs to be proactively applied" 👍
Awesome stuff coming out of @UWASciComm 🥰
Next up for #ASCSS2022 is Tamara Pinkerton of @UWASciComm.
She is speaking on the barriers that exist preventing participation in citizen science. Identifying these obstacles is important for designing inclusive projects that have better outcomes.
New research just published: @heatherbray6 & co-authors explores the value of perceptions of #scicomm professionals to develop informed and evidence-based practices. DOI: doi.org/10.22323/2.21060204
Do you coordinate or manage a #citizenscience project in Australia? Then we'd love to chat with you for about an hour or so about how we can be more inclusive of people with disabilities. Contact details in image :)

So lovely to see our students participating in #comm2inspire today. They ushered, filmed, photographed, chaired, tweeted, networked, and questioned. Great job! #ourSCOMmunity#scicomm@BiolSci_UWA
🤔What can we do about scientists being harassed and abused online?
Looking forward to speaking about this important issue at #Comm2Inspire this afternoon @ASC_WA#AcademicTwitter
We're a bit late to the party, but hopefully some (more) of our amazing scientists will join in #MyScienceMay and share their inspiring science stories (and tag us in 😉)
Coming your way in May!
A month of prompts and collaboration for #MyScienceMay with @LetsTalkSciComm covering everything from who you are, who your dream collaborator is, and your favourite Jargon! Looking forward to sharing this with you!
