Nukes are the worst energy alternative.
'Amoc collapse could change Europe’s climate 10x faster than expected. We aren’t ready.' Part of my reading of this key data: Given the vast costs and very long construction timelines (UK global data analysis says up to 17 yrs for just one nuclear power plant) - new nuclear (inc. SMRs still in development) is already too late for the AMOC climate crises. However, we can mitigate AMOC climate impact and sustain a reliable power system by expanding renewable energy in all sectors, rapid growth and modernisation of the electricity grid, storage technology roll-out, faster interconnection, and using power far more effectively and efficiently. The fact is, each year nuclear adds only as much net global power capacity as renewables add every two days. The direction of travel is clear. theguardian.com/commentisfre…

The answer is wind, sun, water, and earth, NOT NUCLEAR!
Big breakthrough! Worldwide, wind plus solar generated more electricity (22%, 531 TWh) than fossil gas (20%, 477 TWh) for the first month ever, April, 2026. Five years ago, gas generation was twice that of wind plus solar ethicalmarketingnews.com/for… @ember_energy

Another week, another US nuke plant crashes. A plant goes down once a week on average, busting the 24/7 myth..
Operators were forced to shut down the Millstone-2 #nuclear reactor in #Connecticut yesterday after they failed to fix a misaligned control element assembly within two hours. The reactor is at zero power today.

This is insanity. All nuke plants in Ukraine must be shut down and defueled. All spent fuel pools should be secured by international troops and air defenses.
The IAEA has been informed by Ukraine of a drone attack early this morning on the central spent fuel storage facility located in the Chornobyl exclusion zone. The strike caused significant damage to the facility’s fuel reception building - including to the facade, windows and doors - and nearby buildings were also affected by the blast wave. Radiation levels at the facility remain within established limits, Ukraine says. The IAEA team at the Chornobyl site will soon visit the facility to inspect the impact. DG @rafaelmgrossi says the incident is deeply concerning as it occurred at a facility containing large amounts of nuclear material, held in storage just metres away from the attacked building. Attacks on nuclear sites are completely unacceptable and in direct contravention of key nuclear safety principles, notably the 7 Indispensable Pillars for nuclear safety and security during a military conflict, DG Grossi says.

PLEASE Stop prattling on about the 7 pillars. This is a war, not a scout meeting. All the nuke plants need to be shut down and defueled. Spent fuel pools need to be secured by international troops and air defenses. Your wailing for restraint is not working. You put us all at risk

Moving the world to clean, renewable energy costs less than world fossil-fuel subsidies Worldwide subsidies to the fossil-fuel industry exceed the annual cost of transitioning the world to 100% clean, renewable energy for all energy purposes. This means that eliminating fossil-fuel subsidies more than pays for an energy transition. Let’s look at the numbers. Transitioning the world to renewables costs $6.8 trillion dollars per year. According to the International Monetary Fund, fossil-fuel subsidies alone cost $7.4 trillion dollars per year, or 6.4% of world GDP. These subsidies include $730 billion per year in explicit subsidies and $6.7 trillion per year in tax-code benefits, unpaid air pollution damage, unpaid climate damage, and other unpaid environmental and road damage. So, if we want to eliminate the over 7 million air pollution deaths per year from energy, the growing climate damage from energy, and energy insecurity arising from fossil fuels, one sure-fired way is to stop subsidizing the fossil-fuel industry. The IAEA is working hard to keep nukes running through war zones, in other words, working to make meltdowns inevitable.
Replying to @iaeaorg
“The 6th temporary ceasefire?!” In other words, the 5th failure. Only ONE way to protect us from meltdown. The IAEA knows it. Shut the reactors, defuel them. Have the international community guard the fuel pools. You’re playing Russian Roulette. You’ve spun the chamber 5 times…

The @iaeaorg MUST call for the immediate shut down a defueling of all nuke plants in war zones!
The IAEA has been informed by the ZNPP that a drone today struck a turbine building at the site, reportedly causing a hole in its wall. DG @rafaelmgrossi expresses serious concern about the reported incident which would endanger both the 7 indispensable pillars for ensuring nuclear safety during the conflict as well as the 5 concrete principles to protect the ZNPP, which clearly state that “there should be no attack of any kind from or against” the plant. Attacking nuclear sites is like playing with fire, DG Grossi says. The IAEA’s team at the ZNPP has requested access to examine the affected turbine building first-hand. This would be the first drone attack within the ZNPP’s site perimeter since April 2024. The IAEA will be updating this information as the IAEA team report on further details after obtaining the requested access to the incident site.

Nukes make no economic sense. Arrogant governments are burdening us with generations of debt for an obsolete technology.
Over the course of the Scottish Election, Common Weal has been trying diligently to correct the misinformation which has been promoted by the nuclear industry. We have written letters to newspapers to correct reporting, produced numerous briefings on the facts of nuclear energy, placed stories in national newspapers and had guest articles published. Today, we are joined by a powerful ally: the National Audit Office. It has looked at the UK's current (never mind expanded) nuclear commitments and is struggling to find a reliable business case. commonweal.scot/daily-briefi…

We don’t need to replace 600 EJ of fossil energy. We need to stop wasting it. Fossil systems lose ~2/3 as heat. Electrification delivers energy directly into work, cutting total demand ~40–50%. The transition isn’t bigger than we think. It’s smaller. #SWB evcurvefuturist.com/2025/05/…
