I knew this girl wasn’t my friend when she 100% knew I am allergic to strawberries & she made a mixed punch. I specifically asked was strawberries in it. She with no hesitation said no. It looked too red for me. So I didn’t touch it. Also, she reassured me, it wasn’t. My discernment was like nah. My boyfriend drank it & said it’s so much strawberry in here. From that day, we never spoke again.

This comes down to a long-standing double standard rooted in how relationships are framed around gender roles. When a man says he isn’t ready, women are socialized to interpret it as something to be patient about, but when a woman says no, it’s treated like a rejection of the whole relationship. A man’s hesitation is seen as normal, whereas a woman’s hesitation is seen as a red flag.
