Aero Bureau Mission Files: 8/16/25 Spooky Canyon Hoist On 8/16/25, our crew assisted the Kane County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue team with a technical hoist rescue of an injured hiker from Spooky Canyon. Authentic helmet/hoist cam footage shows the precision extraction. This highly technical rescue was only possible thanks to the critical groundwork and patient care provided by the Kane County SAR team and @Intermountain Lifeflight medics and crew. We are announcing Colonel Michael Rapich’s upcoming retirement, effective November 1st. After 33 years of dedicated service, 9 of which he served as Colonel, his impact on the @UTHighwayPatrol and the Department of Public Safety is immeasurable. When his duties as Colonel for UHP extended to Deputy Commissioner in 2018, he also oversaw our Division of Emergency Management and our Bureau of Emergency Communications. Colonel Rapich has been a leader, mentor, and friend to many of us. His steady guidance and deep commitment to public safety have created a legacy that will continue to strengthen our department for years to come.
