For a change of pace - it is the 13th of June 1858 and the day a VC was awarded for the action at Nawabganj-Barabanki, some 20 miles outside Lucknow. The recipient was a man named Same Shaw (alternately, Samuel or John) who was a private in the 3rd Battalion, Rifle Brigade.

The memorial to Sgt Ian McKay VC - on Mount Longdon, Falkland Islands. He led a night assault by 3PARA on an enemy machine gun post. He was killed as he put it out of action, and was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross. He was 29. (Photos of his memorial 2022). @3PARA

Did you know - CSM Stan Hollis was previously recommended for the DCM and MM for actions in other theatres such as France (1940) and North Africa (1941-42) before his VC recommendations in Normandy? Also that he was good a peeling spuds for chips as ‘jankers’ as a result of part of his upbringing? @VCGCOnline talks all about this and more from his book ‘Stan Hollis; The Man They Couldn’t Kill’ on the pod this week. Super stuff!

Remembering 6th June 1944 - all those Allied Nations to Liberate France I recently saw this on Alexandre Lofi. Thousands of names and I love finding ones like this, bringing those lesser known for their service to the fore - Lest We Forget

Proud to support the new National Army Museum display that reunites Johnson Beharry’s Victoria Cross and the Warrior vehicle in which he earned it during two acts of incredible bravery in Iraq in 2004. It's a must see @NAM_London @johnsonbeharry

I’ve been genuinely overwhelmed by the response to The Undefeated. These reviews tell me the book is doing what I hoped: challenging old myths and bringing the real POW experience to light. Thank you to everyone who has read, reviewed, and shared it.
