Lightning shapes are rather forgiving from a design perspective: since lightning strikes happen so fast, we don’t have a perfect understanding of exactly how they should move. Meaning, you can sometimes get away with exaggerated shapes.

Studying the forces of nature makes the VFX creation process far easier and more engaging. When you already understand the "whys" and "hows," it becomes much easier to create quality results, so understanding real lightning helps your designs feel more believable!
