Soy: Contains phytoestrogens; compounds that look like estrogens but can usually have the opposite effect - blocking some of our bodies' estrogen receptors and prevents real estrogen sources from taking hold - Animal foods have real estrogen.

And also a main route for reproduction for some plants is for seeds to be transported by being eaten and 'deposited' else where. A pain system with associated responses could stop that from occuring, so evolution is unlikely to support a sentient pain system in plants.
