The adoption of the Culture Compass for Europe marks a major milestone for the EU’s cultural and creative sectors. It elevates culture from a peripheral policy area to a strategic cornerstone of Europe’s identity, economy, and future.
I welcome the Compass’s ambitious vision to empower artists and cultural professionals, strengthen Europe’s cultural competitiveness and cohesion, and ensure that culture drives an inclusive, resilient, and democratic Europe. Equally important is its emphasis on deepening dialogue with artists, organisations, and citizens to foster shared ownership and lasting impact across the cultural ecosystem.
After one year of fruitful dialogue with Commissioner Micallef, we are pleased that our concerns and recommendations have been reflected in the final text. I now look forward to seeing this vision translated into action.
