🇺🇸 @BenShelton has defeated Brandon Nakashima, 7-6 6-1, to reach his FIRST Indian Wells quarterfinal. 💥 And at 22, he's the YOUNGEST AMERICAN MAN to reach the quarterfinals of Indian Wells since Andy Roddick in 2004: tennis.com/news/articles/ben…

When Kendrick Lamar declared, “40 Acres & a Mule, this is bigger than music…,” he wasn’t merely making a lyrical statement—he was invoking a profound historical injustice that continues to shape the realities of Black America. The phrase “40 acres and a mule” references the unfulfilled promise made to formerly enslaved Black Americans after the Civil War, a broken commitment that symbolizes the systemic economic disenfranchisement of Black people in America. Lamar’s words transcend hip-hop; they speak to the deep wounds of generational oppression and the ongoing fight for reparations—a demand for justice, not charity. By placing this historical struggle within the framework of his music, Kendrick isn’t just rapping; he is using his art as a vehicle for truth, resistance, and a call to action. His statement reminds us that reparations aren’t just a political debate or an abstract concept—they are a moral imperative, a debt owed, and an essential step toward true justice and equality.

From our earliest days, Black history has always been American history – and Black folks have profoundly shaped our American culture through music, art, literature, sports, and beyond. One month a year is not sufficient to celebrate the power of the movements and the people who have fought for the rights we enjoy today. That’s something that we have to do each and every day, as we strive to live up to their example and make sure our children and grandchildren remember their stories.

At 18, I nervously walked into my college’s pre-med office and said I wanted to be a doctor. They suggested I consider other careers—why? Maybe because I came from a small town. Maybe because I was Latino. Maybe because I was poor. I didn’t listen. Now, for the first time, I’m wearing the long white coat of a doctor—my white coat. Sometimes, all it takes is believing in yourself.
