Friday Night Lights!!!! Who’s ready for some football??? We’re extremely excited to be covering and producing cards for the local Skagit & Whatcom football scene this fall. There is no lack of talent in the region, and we hope to be able to highlight some of the teams and athletes' achievements as the season progresses. 1A looks likely to line up with most previous years, as Lynden Christian looks to lead a pack that also includes Meridian (@Xavierperr51957), Nooksack Valley and Mt Baker, all vying to secure a spot in the state playoffs. Look for WR Boyce Robertson of LC to put up some monster receiving #’s that may rival some existing county records. 3A has Sedro Woolley, led by quarterback @clifftadema0, set to make some noise in the Wesco, and ultimately the state playoffs. Cross county rival Mount Vernon will look to improve upon last years record with a nice cache of returning seniors and Ferndale is always a threat to make a post season run. 2A is ultimately where the intrigue lies, as the NWC 2A is widely considered the best league in the state top to bottom. Defending champ Anacortes, led by quarterback @Ryan7Harrington, are the team to beat until they’re dethroned. The road to the championship won’t be easy however, as they will have to run through the gauntlet of Archbishop Murphy, Lynden and Sehome, all who will be ranked in the top 10. Look out for QB @_nolanwright of Sehome, with new passing weapon @HuddyNeff, who is set to smash every Whatcom Co. passing record on the books this season. Good luck to all of our Skagit & Whatcom teams and athletes this fall! After a great summer taking some time away to enjoy some travel and time with family and friends, the VanceCards team is back in full force for the Fall sports season. With that in mind, we’d like to tie up some loose ends from the Spring season and award our athlete of the Year. In one of the easier decisions we may ever have to make, our Vance Custom Cards 2024-25 Spring Athlete of the Year is @XNeyens, of the @MTVernonBasebal. A 4 year starter on the diamond, Xavier ultimately helped lead them to a 2A Washington State Championship in 2025, while belting a state leading 8 home runs. His on the field prowess, especially in the batters box, led him this June to be drafted in the !st Round of the Major League Baseball Draft, with the 21st pick by the @astros. What a great senior season and fabulous career Xavier, we’ll be rooting you on in the big’s!

It was my privilege to work on some cards for the graduating seniors of the 3A State Champion Mount Vernon Bulldogs Baseball Team / @MTVernonBasebal, (Xavier Neyens / @XNeyens, Dylan Jacobs / @DeboJ0520, Collin Boon, Moises Lucatero / @Moi_lucatero & Brody Olmsted / @olmstedbrody). Congratulations to the team, coaches and community on a season for the ages. As a MV alum, it was a joy to watch them play this year, and also a great chance to reconnect with some old friends at Sherman Anderson Field I hadn’t seen in years. It was amazing to see the community support and the tight bond this team had together. I’d like to give a big shout out to Eric Stalcup / @StalcupEric for the idea and help in coordination, Chad Tesarik / @ chadtesarikphotography on IG for the photo of Dylan in the championship game, and most notably Melissa Nelson / @ nelsonphotography2025 on IG for the use of a multitude of her fantastic photos she was able to provide from throughout the season. If you’re ever in need of Sports or Senior Photos, I can’t recommend her enough! Best of luck seniors in your after high school endeavors, and for the returning players next year, RUN IT BACK TO BACK!!!!!

In 3A District 1 baseball action today at Sherman Anderson Field in Mount Vernon, the hometown Bulldogs took on the visiting ballclub from Meadowdale. Dylan Jacobs / @DeboJ0520 of @MTVernonBasebal provided the juice both offensively and defensively in their 6-3 victory. A couple of slick plays on the hot corner, and an absolute Nuke over the chicken wire for a 2 Run Dinger, helped propel them to the win, as they march on in their quest for a 3A State Title. They'll next play this Tuesday at Funko Field in Everett, 4pm, versus Snohomish.

We head back to Anacortes for our athlete spotlight of Seahawks Running Back and Linebacker/Safety, Brock Beaner - @BrockBeaner After seeing varsity time as a freshman in 2021, Brock really burst onto the scene his sophomore year in 2022. He rushed for almost 1,400 yards and scored 19 touchdowns, while helping lead his team to their 1st State Tournament appearance since 2010 and subsequently being named the Skagit Valley Herald & Northwest Conference’s Offensive Player of the Year. After a taste of the playoffs the previous year, Anacortes set out to prove to everyone that they were the best team in 2A in 2023, and that they did, defeating Tumwater in the title game with an impressive 60-30 victory. Brock’s junior year consisted of over 1,200 yards on the ground, 20 total touchdowns and another 300 plus yards receiving. On the defensive side, he amassed 9 sacks, 11 tackles for loss and 3 blocked kicks. For his efforts, he was named SBLive’s 2 Way State Player of the Year alongside earning All State honors on both offense and defense. Heading into his senior season, the expectations were sky high for both Brock and his Seahawks team. Suffice to say, they did not disappoint. After ripping through the regular season and cruising through the first few rounds of the playoffs, they ultimately defeated Tumwater again for their 2nd straight State Title, 20-10. Brock had 15 tackles on defense and scampered for a 67 yard touchdown in the championship game, which was a defensive battle where points were at a premium. For the season defensively, he recorded 120 tackles, 8 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and 2 interceptions. On the offensive side, he totaled over 1,600 total yards on the ground and through the air, with 22 total touchdowns, while once again being named 1st Team All State on both offense and defense. As a 3 Star Recruit, he had his choice of many schools to continue his football playing career, and ultimately chose to attend the University of Montana - @MontanaGrizFB to play alongside his twin brother Brady for the Grizzlies. Congratulations Brock on an impressive high school career and best of luck as you embark on your next chapter in Missoula. @CoachPortz @CoachJohnDumas @AnacortesFB

In today’s local athlete spotlight, we visit the career of Anacortes’ Brady Beaner - @bradybeaner to highlight his high school football accomplishments and showcase a few of the cards we produced for his personal collection. Brady is a multi-dimensional offensive and defensive weapon and was a varsity participant from the moment he stepped on campus as a freshman. He emerged as a key contributor his sophomore year, particularly in a standout game against Sedro-Woolley, where he ran for 123 yards and two touchdowns on six carries, while also catching four passes for 171 yards and a touchdown. This performance earned him the WaFd Bank Washington High School Athlete of the Week. His play helped lead the Seahawks to the state tournament for this 1st time since 2010 and was a pivotal stepping stone to what would ultimately come to fruition in the 2 years to follow. Beaner’s junior season is when he and the entire team took their game to the next level. With 100 tackles and 3 interceptions on the defensive side, to amassing over 1,200 total offensive yards rushing & receiving, coupled with 11 touchdowns, he and his teammates had a season for the ages. For his defensive efforts, he was named the Skagit Valley Herald Defensive Player of the Year, 1st Team All Northwest Conference as a safety and 1st Team All-State as a defensive back. The year would culminate at Husky Stadium with a thumping of Tumwater in the title game 60-30, earning Anacortes their 1st State Football Championship in school history. As a senior in 2024, expectations were sky high for the Anacortes team coming off their State Title the previous year. Primarily a running back and receiver his first 3 years on campus, Brady was thrust into the Quarterback position early in the year due to an injury to starter Ryan Harrington. Anacortes didn’t miss a beat, ultimately cruising to a 13-1 regular season record heading into the state playoffs. They would comfortably navigate the playoffs before an eventual rematch for the title with highly regarded Tumwater. Despite some pundits predicting a comfortable Tumwater victory, Anacortes was once again victorious and brought home the championship for a 2nd straight season. The defensive game plan versus Tumwater was critical to the victory, and Brady dominated with 18 total tackles, including 2 for loss. For his outstanding offensive and defensive performances his senior year, he was named the WIAA 2A Player of the Year as well as earning 1st Team All-State Defensive Back for the second straight year. As a 3 Star Recruit, Brady was recruited by the likes of Eastern Washington, Idaho, Boise State, UC Davis and Montana, where he would ultimately sign his letter of intent with the Grizzlies. He will be joined at Montana on the football team by his good friend Colton Lentz from Nooksack Valley, and his twin brother Brock, who we will highlight in his own installment tomorrow. The future looks bright for Brady, and there is a large contingent of Northwest Fans that are excited to watch what he accomplishes once he sets foot onto campus this fall in Missoula. @CoachPortz @CoachJohnDumas @AnacortesFB
