The WBC has issued similar rulings in the past.
Years back, the WBC ordered their light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson to fight WBO champion Sergey Kovalev. And they ordered their featherweight champion Gary Russell to face WBA champion Leo Santa Cruz. Neither contest came off as intended.
In 2019, Lomachenko vs. Luke Campbell was sanctioned for the vacant WBC title. At the time, Lomachenko was the champion of WBO and WBA.

The WBC has ordered cruiserweight champion Noel Mikaelian to defend his title against unified champion David Benavidez, according to a letter obtained by The Ringβs @MikeCoppinger.
Mikaelian has been in talks to fight Ring Magazine champion Jai Opetaia in the fall.
