Cody reflected on the enduring legacy of the 101st Airborne Division during a visit to Fort Campbell, Kentucky. M120/M121 120mm Mortar: Heavy Indirect Fire Support The M120 is the towed 120mm mortar system while the M121 is the vehicle-mounted version used on Stryker and M113-based carriers.  It provides heavy indirect fire support with significantly more explosive power than 81mm mortars and a range of up to 7,900 meters.  A trained crew can fire 4 to 8 rounds per minute sustained, with short bursts up to 16 rounds per minute.  The system is used by both light and mechanized infantry units for close and continuous fire support.

Polaris MRZR-D: Ultra-Light Tactical Mobility Vehicle The Polaris MRZR-D is an ultra-light tactical vehicle used by special operations and light infantry forces.  It is highly air-transportable, can be internally carried or sling-loaded by helicopters, and offers excellent off-road mobility with a small logistical footprint.  The MRZR is available in multiple configurations and has become a key asset for rapid reaction and special operations missions.

Infantry Squad Vehicle: The Army’s New Light Tactical Transporter The M1301 Infantry Squad Vehicle is a lightweight, air-transportable tactical vehicle designed to carry a full nine-soldier infantry squad.  It is based on the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 and can be rapidly deployed by air, including sling-load and internal helicopter transport.  The Army is also developing a heavier ISV-H variant with increased payload and onboard power for command systems.

1st Armored Division Soldiers Zero Abrams Tank Sights in Bulgaria Soldiers from Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment, 1st Armored Division zeroed their M1 Abrams tank sighting systems during gunnery training at Novo Selo Training Area, Bulgaria on May 30, 2026. Zeroing the sights allows crews to confirm accuracy and build proficiency before conducting live-fire engagements. This training helps maintain the combat readiness of armored units forward deployed in Europe.

M252A2 81mm Mortar: The Army’s Lightweight Indirect Fire Weapon The M252A2 is the U.S. Army and Marine Corps’ lightweight 81mm mortar, capable of delivering high-explosive, smoke, and illumination rounds out to nearly 6,000 meters.  It can be man-packed by a small crew or vehicle-mounted on HMMWVs and Strykers for rapid mobility.  The M252A2 provides critical indirect fire support to light infantry and air assault units with excellent accuracy and a high rate of fire.

F-35A Lightning II: America’s Premier Stealth Fighter The F-35A Lightning II is the U.S. Air Force’s primary stealth fighter, optimized for conventional runway operations unlike the STOVL F-35B and carrier-based F-35C.  It combines advanced stealth, sensor fusion, and long-range strike capability with the ability to network with drones and other aircraft.  The F-35A has conducted combat operations in Iraq and Syria and supported high-risk missions including the rescue of a downed pilot in Iranian airspace.

Military Working Dogs Soldiers from the 93rd Military Working Dog Detachment, 385th Military Police Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division conducted live-fire room clearing training at Fort Stewart, Georgia on May 5, 2026. The Military Working Dogs supported the teams by detecting threats and clearing rooms during close-quarters combat exercises. AH-64E Apache: The Army’s Most Advanced Attack Helicopter The AH-64E Apache is the U.S. Army’s most advanced attack helicopter, featuring upgraded engines, manned-unmanned teaming with drones, Longbow radar, and improved avionics.  It can carry up to 16 Hellfire missiles and a 30mm chain gun while operating in all weather conditions day or night.  The AH-64E has seen extensive combat in Iraq and Afghanistan and continues to serve as the primary attack helicopter for the U.S. Army and allied nations.

USS Fort McHenry: Whidbey Island-Class Dock Landing Ship The USS Fort McHenry (LSD-43) was a Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship commissioned in 1987.  It featured a large well deck for LCAC hovercraft and a flight deck for helicopters, enabling rapid amphibious assaults with Marines and equipment.  The ship supported numerous deployments and operations before being decommissioned on March 27, 2021, with its final departure on April 16, 2021.

USS George Washington: Nimitz-Class Supercarrier The USS George Washington (CVN-73) is a Nimitz-class supercarrier commissioned in 1992.  It supported major operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and conducted numerous deployments across the globe.  After completing a Refueling and Complex Overhaul, the carrier returned to active service and continues to serve as a key power projection platform for the U.S. Navy.

HMMWV: The U.S. Army’s Iconic Tactical Workhorse The HMMWV, or Humvee, has been the U.S. Army’s primary tactical vehicle since 1985, serving in every major conflict from Iraq to Afghanistan.  Certain variants like the M1045 and M1046 mount a roof-launched TOW anti-tank missile system capable of destroying armored targets at long range.  The vehicle is fully air-transportable by CH-47 Chinook and CH-53 Super Stallion helicopters, allowing rapid deployment of troops and anti-armor teams.
