Please sign and repost this important petition: petition.parliament.uk/petit… Introduce a Central Microchip Portal to help reunite missing pets without delay Update from Karen Harding, a key figure in the reunification of missing pets. “We check chips of lost, found and stolen dogs on a daily basis . . . The fact that some databases still don’t have the facilities to allow organisations, vets, wardens to check chips without calling them (during office hours) is ridiculous in this day and age. These databases are NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE, one in particular took 7 days to get back to a dog warden with owner details 😡 One central place, one login to get owner details or to check a pet’s details are up to date is KEY!! It makes no sense at all for any of these companies (databases) to oppose this. If they do they certainly don’t have the pet/owner interests at heart. Please do keep sharing, signing and spreading the word! This is vital to keeping everyone’s pets safe within a very confusing system 🙏 PLEASE SIGN, WE CAN’T GET THE CHANGES THAT ARE URGENTLY NEEDED WITHOUT YOU THANK YOU 🐾❤️🐾 #MakeChipsCount #CentralMicrochipPortal #PetsAreFamily #ScanMe #FernsLaw #TheftByFinding #PetTheftReform #PetAbduction #cat #dog #reunite #MicrochippingMatters

A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED PUSH THIS PETITION - YOU ARE ALL ANIMAL HEROES 🐾❤️🐾 The microchip database petition has now closed — and sadly, it didn’t reach the 100,000 signatures needed to trigger a parliamentary debate. As of midnight on Friday 5th June 2026, 26,744 people had signed. Thank you to every single one of them. Defra has indicated that AMDO a small group of the 25 microchip databases are now exploring ‘commercial solutions’ to their industry-led plans. So the question remains: what happens next? Why this matters so much: Missing and stolen pets are the heart of this campaign. Right now, the UK’s microchip system is fragmented — 25 separate databases, 25 separate logins, limited hours of contact and no single lookup point. Reuniting a lost pet can take days, or simply never happen at all. What we need is simple: • One login linking all 25 databases • 24/7 availability — not just 9–5 on weekdays • Instant contact information — not a wait for an email reply or phone message back • Pets reunited in hours, not days The scale of the problem: Approximately 25,000 dogs have been stolen over the last 11 years — and that only counts those who received a Crime Reference Number. It doesn’t include victims of Theft By Finding. Dr Daniel Allen, @Dr_Dan_1 founder of PetTheftReform.co.uk, who co-wrote the petition with myself, reflected: “In the six months since we launched, around 1,500 dogs and cats have been abducted in the UK, 2 new commercial databases have been created, and countless opportunities to scan, check, and reunite missing pets have been lost.” The UK has half a microchip system. Without strong backup procedures, continuity, or proper regulation, pet owners are being let down. It may not have succeeded today — but the need hasn’t gone away. 🐾❤️🐾 Check your pet’s microchip is registered correctly and watch out for the big database who are starting to charge an annual subscription fee! It’s starting!!! There are still two free databases HomeAgain and LostPaws and PetTrac and PetDatabase are highly recommended. The microchip database petition closes at midnight FRIDAY 5th June 2026. Sign here: petition.parliament.uk/petit… These missing microchipped dogs and cats are the reason why we are so passionate to get the microchip system working. We need a microchip system that reunites missing pets with a single lookup point, linking all 25 microchip databases to one login, not 25 separate logins, available 24/7, not just from 9-5 only on weekdays, instant contact information, instead of waiting for a reply to an email or phone message! That’s why this petition is so important for every family with a microchip pet. These pictured microchipped dogs and cats are still missing, apart from Fern of #FernsLaw, who was reunited after 6 years, being found as a stray dog (second row up from the bottom and 5th dog in from the left). Lots of you will be able to name some of them but now many owners are aware that time has taken away the hope of them ever being reunited with their beloved pet 💔 It was recently reported that approximately 25,000 dogs have been stolen over the last 11 years, that number represents the number of dogs who have received a Crime Reference Number from the police and that doesn’t include the pets who are victims of Theft By Finding. We have half a microchip system in the UK, it’s no good relying on the system that doesn’t have strong and secure backup procedures in place, through lack of continuity and regulations, pet owners are taken for mugs.
