Extremely pleased and relieved that this Labour Gov is banning social media for under-16s.
As a mum of a pre-teen, it’s the thing that keeps me up at night. I know many of my constituents feel the same. That’s why I called for a ban, and I am delighted we’re implementing one.

Tools for blocking social media on a child’s device already exist, and government intervention was not necessary to alleviate Ellie’s nighttime stress.

This is why you are so unpopular, you have zero consistency. Your government is banning TikTok yet here you are dressed like a dad at his kid's Saturday football filming a TikTok video while actively giving 16 yr olds the vote.
We are banning social media access for under 16s.
These days kids must find their feet in a world where technology intrudes into every area of their life.
I just can’t let that go on anymore. So we’re giving children their childhoods back.

I feel like I'm not being dramatic in saying that this will kill kids. I turned to social media when I was 15 because I had no friends, and it saved my life. I can't imagine what it's like for today's kids, especially those who are LGBTQ and live in dangerous home environments.

Without social media I wouldn’t have any of the hobbies that I do now. TikTok made me pick up art back in 2020, which I’ve now been doing for 6 years and it’s basically my life. Same with psychology, if it wasn’t for videos on YouTube on I wouldn’t have chosen to do it at uni
YouTube has lowered the barriers to entry for everyone to learn about the world and pursue their hobbies. From playing the guitar to discovering history by stumbling upon documentaries made by enthusiastic amateurs. Shutting children off from the world will be utterly miserable.

"Stare at a wall" is so apt bc there is literally nothing for kids to do here anymore. Parks are for young children, so teens get chased out, everything is super expensive so you can't go on a day out, and there's precious little nature left to explore.
Thats all you can do.
