The first patient in the UK to benefit from adaptive deep brain stimulation - which reads and responds to brainwaves - has shared how it has left him often feeling as though he "doesn't have Parkinson's".
The new @Medtronic functionality was switched on at Bristol Brain Centre.

Tune in to BBCPoints West from 6.30pm this evening where we’re expecting to see Bristol Brain Centre patient John and his consultant Dr Boca talking about adaptive deep brain stimulation for Parkinson’s. John was the first person in the UK to benefit from the treatment.

Works on the next phase of the Elective Centre will affect a short stretch of Monks Park Avenue, near Southmead Hospital's entrance, from Monday, 22 July for 5-6 weeks. This will involve a lane and part of the pavement being closed and may make journeys slightly longer.

NBT's stroke service is the largest in the UK following a major reconfiguration in the region in 2023 and the expansion of our thrombectomy service in 2022. The 1-year anniversary of the changes coincides with our #Brunel10 celebrations. Read more. đź”— ow.ly/Mzgt50RJX9S
ALT 1 year stroke service transformation. Our stroke service is the largest of its kind in the UK. 200 more patients were treated in the first year of the 24/7 thrombectomy service than the previous year. On average, people in our area see a specialist stroke nurse assessment in 13 minutes.
