The @ACOS_MSS mini conference that I’ve been planning for LECOM-B came to fruition today. Lots of fun skills labs to break up our exam studying. Thankful for great participants and surgeons/OMS3s

As someone who completed a 5 year surgical residency, normal people don’t quit when they’re 6 months from finishing unless there’s a major red flag. Additionally, people with those red flags shouldn’t be surgeon general.

I’m starting to realize I may not love sushi as much as I thought and that I really just need a reason to have spicy mayo

Btwn 1985 and 2015 a study (that controlled for experience, team performance, etc) showed white coaches were ~ 2X as likely to be promoted than underrepresented coaches. Still, some teams treat the #RooneyRule as a checkbox and some fans disapprove of this measure of equity.

Sharing my appreciation for @AmericanAir employee ā€œAungā€ at ORD who worked so hard to find my lost luggage after my delayed flight that left me stranded in Chicago. Amazing human and I hope this reaches him šŸ™

Once I… …finish med school …complete residency …become an attending …get that first paycheck after training …become partner THAT is when I’ll happy But then you aren’t. It’s called an Arrival Fallacy, and it impacts most physicians. It’s the idea that ā€œonce I get there or once I arrive THAT is when I’ll be happy.ā€ But as Gertrude Stein said, ā€œThere is no ā€˜there, there.ā€ So what’s the secret??? It turns out you have to learn how to practice focusing on the journey and not the destination. Design a life you enjoy in the day to day. Not just through the ā€œOnce Iā€ syndrome most of us suffer with. Life does get better after training. But then you adapt. And for many the happiness is not what you expected. The light at the end of the tunnel wasn’t as bright as you thought it would be. Enjoy the process. Not just the product. If you aren’t, it may be time to ask tough questions. You have one life to live. Don’t waste it.
