Visual Studies at Northeastern offers students the chance to study art, visual culture, new media and more, with a focus on practical learning and site visits
Yesterday the Olesya and Jerry Koenig Gallery generously hosted students in ARTH3000 Design and Propaganda in their home/art gallery in Cambridge. There was art, discussion and cake!
If you’re in Salem this summer, be sure to check out Gu Wenda’s United Nations at PEM, all the flags of the UN countries made entirely of human hair! @peabodyessex
For the first time in 109 years, this #AsianAmerican silent film dating back to 1914 was seen by audiences. Its restoration is in large part thanks to @NUCSSH’s @IAMDENISEKHOR. bit.ly/3MJDLM1
A huge thank you to the Museum of Russian Icons in Clinton, MA for hosting our @northeastern students yesterday. Students in Amy Bryzgel’s ARTH3000 Design and Propaganda and Brooke Stewart’s ARTF1122 Color and Composition courses learned about the process of making icons…
Yesterday in ARTH3000, Design and propaganda, we experimented with images, graphics and text as preparation for our poster project, creating an advertisement for @northeastern , @NU_CAMD or A D using avant-garde poster design!
Today in ARTH3000 we experienced Tatlin’s ‘culture of materials’ by creating objects using materials based on their intrinsic properties. We left the objects in the classroom, titled ‘exhibition of professional painters’, just like Tatlin titled his room in the 0.10 exhibition!
We think Daniel Anguili’s new mural/refresh looks just great! Such vibrant colors and just in time to add a bit of cheer to our graduation festivities! @Northeastern@NU_CAMD
We are so proud of our student, Shuyang Chen, a Dean’s list student who will graduate from @Northeastern@NU_CAMD with a BA in Art with a concentration in Visual Studies and Minor in Media and Screen Studies this spring!
She has been accepted to @mccnyu NYU's Media, Culture, and Communication program for grad school, where she will start next fall. During her studies she set up her own co-op at the @ICAinBOSTON in marketing.
Her capstone project was titled “Marketing in Art Museums: Case Studies for the Obama Portrait Tour 2022.” It examines marketing campaigns of the same exhibition by seven different art institutions nationwide. Congratulations, Shuyang!

Students in ARTH2211 Contemporary Art & Design learned a lot this semester! Check out the difference in what they associate with contemporary art from the first day of class compared to today! @northeastern@NU_CAMD#ContemporaryArt
